I`ve had a good look at both, i think the composition and sharpness are better in this shot, the other shot has a kind of super-imposed feel, i know it`s not, but that`s how it comes across to me. Back to this one, the catch light really helps put detail on the ant, very good.

Thanks Adam, The superimposed look probably comes from the shadows of the legs, to which I feel adds depth to the image.I love shadows. Ernie

Hi Ernie,
I've had a good look at both of these and struggle with them a bit. I assume the insect is a small and difficult subject but you have the same problems that I get with insects - d.o.f. On this shot the right antena is far from sharp and there is some distracting clutter across the end of the body. The colours and exposure are good although I think a little of the detail in the darker part of the body has been lost due to the large amount of contrast in the subject. Really sorry to be a bit negative but it doesn't really work for me.
